Curled up in bed while watching cooking lessons on Youtube, I decided to spend the rest of the day learning new desserts then tidying up the house later. The kids are in Al Khobar for a chess tournament and this could be my most awaited me-time. But as I reached for the phone to check for my children's messages, I saw a friend's post on Al Janadriyah Festival.
"Forget it, you've been there more than a couple of times to memorize what's in Gate 3 or in Gate 5", I said to myself. But F has been asking me about it since the first week of December so I sent him a message to ask if he wants to check it out because I don't. Winter has this hibernating effect on me. And as expected, of course, he wanted to. He's an avid visitor. He loves that festival. And to make the story and argument short, I agreed to go.
And was I wrong for hesitating! There were lots of people and the parking lot was full to the edge of a ditch! We were so worried that our car might get towed away anytime we were at the festival because we just followed other drivers when they parked an unmarked and undesignated parking area.
Annually held, except in 2015 when the Saudi government decided not to hold it to pay respect for King Abdullah's death, Janadriyah Festival celebrates Saudi Arabia's cultural heritage. It showcases each region's products, arts and crafts, and culture.
There were artists donning their craftsmanship and skills, falconers showing off birds of prey, and vendors selling local food and beverages. I could've visited more stalls and areas had we been early! There were so much to see, taste and enjoy!
With the celebration of Janadriyah Festival becoming better and more festive, there's no reason I'd curl up in bed every time my husband asks me to check it out.
